San Diego

Just thought I would post about a great art show I found in San Diego this past weekend. I ended up at Subtext, a gallery and design bookstore. There was the opening of a show called “Home Is Where You Make It” by Jolby. Jolby is a creative collaboration of Josh Kenyon & Colby Nichols. I was able to purchase one of their pieces. If one is in the San Diego area I suggest checking it out.
Radio is trying to kill me
by Bob Dot on Feb.19, 2009, under Uncategorized
Ok, Here is the problem and why radio is trying to kill me. Indie 103.1 went off the air last month. That killed one of the few good radio stations in LA. Well today I found out that another station is switching formats. KLSX 97.1 FM is switching formats to Top 40. That means that Adam Carolla is going off the air. I listened to his entire program every day. All two and a half hours of his program I would listen to everyday at work. He is going off the air. That means that I can listen to some of the other music programs that I download but that does limit terrestrial radio. That means I have KUCR and KROQ as the only two channels that I listen to. Even those are very limited. KUCR doesn’t have the best programming all the time. For about 2 hours a day right as am driving home they play news programs. That isn’t bad but not the thing I want to listen to on the drive home. What is the point of having 6 presets on my radio when I can only think of 2 channels that I really listen to. KROQ is good for the morning drive time. I like Kevin and Bean. Their program has shortened by an hour in the morning and they have a 5-6pm drive time show. Problem is that it is only about 15 minutes worth of them talking. It is mostly music during that hour. I listen to a lot of music but I’m not a fan of all the music that does get played on KROQ. How many times can I listen to Nirvana song? I’m really done with radio. I now have to make sure that I keep my iPhone updated with the latest podcasts. That seems to be the only thing worth listening to. I listen to the Kevin and Bean podcast now because I’m tired of all the songs that KROQ plays. I like music. I listen to tons of music. I purchase tons of music but I don’t like Top 40 and nothing on the radio comes close to what I like in the LA area. KEXP in Seattle is the only station that comes close to being a good music station. Jake FM is too limited. They like to say that they plan anything they want at any time but it tends to be the same few bands over and over again. That was one of the reasons I liked Harmony in my Head by Henry Rollins. He did play what he wanted and sometimes it was random and odd but it was something new to me (even if it was a 50 year recording by someone I had never heard of). I think I’m done with my rant.
